We welcome members and visitors to convene, work, and collaborate at the NITMB located in the John Hancock Center,

ACCESS POLICY: Anyone without a building access badge must be registered in the building's security system before their arrival.
To request registration: email your name, requested dates and times, and business purpose to access@nitmb.org at least one business day in advance. Please note: 1) due to volume, expect your request to be processed within one business day, and 2) we are unable to let non-registered visitors through security until our team confirms their information and enters it into the security system.

Metra Shuttle
John Hancock operates a shuttle service to LaSalle, Union, and Ogilvie stations. Must purchase a ticket in advance.
Pick up from Ogilvie station is at Madison and Wacker.
Operations: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 10:32 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
*Purchase a shuttle pass in advance here [1 ride $4.00, 10 rides $26.25, 40 rides $94.50] as of 05/01/24.

The closest parking structure is Huron Superior Parking A 222 East Huron Street (10 min walk). NITMB will not reimburse John Hancock Building Parking.

University of Chicago employees, you can pick up the pink discount coupon with Kierra Hannon at the NITMB office. Each usage provides up to 12 hours of parking for $15.00. Vouchers work in the Erie/Ontario garages (Lots C & D). You may pick up 1 voucher at time, each good for 5 uses. When checking out at a parking kiosk enter your ticket then scan the voucher for the discounted rate to appear.

If you go over the 12-hour time limit customer will be charged the maximum daily rate of $50.00 at the Erie/Ontario parking garage.

These coupons do not guarantee a parking space if the Erie/Ontario (Lots C & D) parking garage is full/closed. Customer must either find street parking or find alternative off-site parking.

If you park at the Huron/Superior (Lot A) Parking Garage the discounted rate will not be honored and you will be charged at the regular daily parking rates up to $58.00 maximum rate.

We will not reimburse parking in the John Hancock Building Parking. If you are parking for the week, you may only park in Garages C and D @ 321 E. Erie St. Chicago, IL 60611. Each day you must use one of the 24-hour discount tickets to exit and re-enter the parking garage. If you do not exit and re-enter the garage, you will be required to pay full price for the duration of your parking. NITMB can only provide the 24-hour discount tickets, we cannot reimburse you for full price of parking.

Northwestern employees, you can pick up the pink discount coupon on the first floor of Abbott Hall, 710 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60611. Up to 12 hours of parking for $11.00 if in salary tiers 1-4 and $14.00 for salary tiers 5-7. If parked for 12 hours or more, regular garage rates will apply. Vouchers work in the Superior and Erie lots. You may pick up 2 vouchers, each good for 5 uses, at a time.
Campus Shuttles
Utilize the Downtown Campus Connecter to commute to the NITMB! Anyone with an active University of Chicago ID card can access the Downtown Campus Connecter.
The shuttle operates every 20 minutes from 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, except university holidays.
To access NITMB, ride the Downtown Campus Connecter until the Wacker (Upper) + Stetson stop. From there, it is a 20 minute walk to NITMB (walking map link). Or, to take a bus the rest of the way, walk to the Michigan & Hubbard CTA bus stop to utilize CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.

By Bus
#2 Hyde Park Express
The #2 Hyde Park Express runs weekdays from 6:00am - 9:20am and 3:40pm - 6:05pm. You can board the northbound #2 (Navy Pier) bus at the UChicago campus at the Cottage Grove and 57th Street bus stop. Then, ride the bus until the Michigan & Grand stop. At this point, you can either walk 10 minutes to NITMB (walking map link) or you can utilize CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
#4 Cottage Grove
From the UChicago campus, walk to Cottage Grove & 56th Street bus stop. Then, ride the northbound #4 Cottage Grove (Columbus, Randolph) bus until the Randolph & Michigan bus stop. From this stop, you can choose to walk 20 minutes north to the NITMB (see walking map) or you can utilize northbound CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
#6 Jackson Park Express
From the UChicago campus, you can first take the northbound #171 (54th/South Shore) CTA bus line (free to anyone who shows a valid UChicago ID) to the S. Hyde Park & 55th Street bus stop. Then, ride the northbound #6 Jackson Park Express (Wacker/Columbus) bus until the Michigan & S. Water bus stop. From this stop, you can choose to walk 20 minutes north to the NITMB (see walking map) or you can utilize northbound CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
By Train
Red Line
From the UChicago campus, walk to the 55th Street & Ellis bus stop. Then, ride the westbound CTA #55 Garfield (Midway) bus until the Garfield Red Line Station bus stop. Then, wait for the north bound (Howard) Red Line train. Ride this train until the Chicago stop. From this stop, walk 10 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Metra Electric
Metra offers a fast, safe train route from Hyde Park to downtown Chicago, giving you efficient access to the NITMB.
First, purchase tickets for the Metra Electric line in the Ventra App. When purchasing tickets, you will be asked to select which train stops you would like to travel between. There are three stops in Hyde Park: 51st/53rd Street, 55th/56th/57th Street, and 59th Street University of Chicago. These stops are all on the east side of Hyde Park (see map below).
Once you have your ticket, check the Metra Electric Schedule to find when the next train heading inbound to Millennium Station will be available at your stop. You can either walk to the Metra stop (see walking map from UChicago campus), or you can ride a UChicago campus shuttle to a Metra stop. UChicago operates two bus routes that can take you to a Metra station; the Blue route (Friend Center & Metra Route) and the Green route (Midway Metra). When at your chosen train stop, make sure you are standing on the side marked for trains to Chicago.
After boarding the train, Metra staff will walk through the train to review tickets. If you purchased tickets on your phone, open the Ventra app, activate the ticket you wish to use, and show your screen to train staff.
Ride the train to the final stop, Millennium Station. Once at Millennium station, exit to street level. NITMB is then a 20 minute walk north (see walking map). Or, to take a bus the rest of the way, walk to the Michigan & Hubbard CTA bus stop to utilize CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
Bike
You can use Chicago's bike trails for convenient transportation to the NITMB. Traveling on bike to the NITMB via the Lakefront Trail will take about 54 minutes. (See bike map)
Access points to the lakefront trail in Hyde Park are available at the 51st Street Pedestrian Bridge, 55th Street, and 57th Street Beach.
Drive

Utilize the Intercampus Shuttle to commute to the NITMB! Anyone with an active Northwestern University Wildcard can access the Intercampus Shuttle.
The shuttle operates year-round, Monday through Friday, 6:35am - 10:25pm. It does not run on University holidays.

#201 Central/Ridge
From the Northwestern University campus, walk to the Chicago & Clark bus stop. From this stop, board the #201 Central/Ridge southbound (Howard Station) bus. Ride this bus until the Paulina & Howard Terminal. Then, board the southbound #147 bus (Congress Plaza). Ride this bus until the Michigan & Delaware bus stop. Then, walk 3 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Pace Route 213 - Green Bay Road
From the Northwestern University campus, walk to the Church & Chicago Avenue bus stop. Then, board the southbound Pace #213 (Howard CTA Station) bus. Ride this bus until the Howard CTA station. Then, board the southbound #147 bus (Congress Plaza). Ride this bus until the Michigan & Delaware stop. Then, walk 3 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
By Train
Purple Line
From the Northwestern University campus, walk 10 minutes (see walking map) to the Davis station. Then, board the southbound Purple Line train (Howard). Ride the train until the Howard stop. Then, walk to the Paulina & Howard Terminal. Board the southbound #147 bus (Congress Plaza). Ride this bus until the Michigan & Delaware stop. Then, walk 3 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Depending on the time of day, it may be faster to instead transfer from the Purple Line to the Red Line. If this is the case, walk 10 minutes (see walking map) to the Davis station. Then, board the southbound Purple Line train (Howard). Ride the train until the Howard stop. Then, board the southbound Red Line train (95th/Dan Ryan). Ride this train until the Chicago stop. From this stop, walk 10 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Bike
You can use Chicago's bike trails for convenient transportation to the NITMB. Traveling on bike to the NITMB from Northwestern's Evanston campus via the Lakefront Trail will take about 1 hour and 8 minutes. (See bike map)
Access the Lakefront Trail at the north trailhead by Kathy Osterman Beach.
