Building Tenants entrance to the John Hancock is located on Chestnut St.
There are two steps to building access:

To attend a single event or meeting email your name, university affiliation, reason for visiting, and preferred date and arrival time to access@nitmb.org to be added to the security system. Building security requires at least one business day notification. If you unable to be admitted to the building, please call us on our main line, (312) 503-2022 , if we miss your call leave a detailed message.

To obtain a Hearn-Hancock Elevator Badge and Northwestern Wildcard Badge to the 35th floor suite you must meet the below eligibility.

Badge access includes both 1) Hearn-Hancock Elevator Badge and 2) Northwestern Wildcard
A. Elevator Access: Please complete and return the 875 North Michigan Avenue Badge Request Form and provide a color high-resolution photo as soon as possible. Email access@nitmb.org for a copy of the form.

875 North Michigan Avenue Badge Request Form: the building management requires a signature. They require your full legal name on the form. Company: NITMB (National Institute for Theory and Mathematics in Biology,) Suite: #3500. Once completed, either photograph or scan the form to an electronic copy.

Email to access@nitmb.org the, a) Badge Form, and b) a color .jpeg of recent headshot.

Badges are available for pick up usually five business days after submission. We will let you know when your badge is ready for pick up in our suite.
B. Northwestern Wildcard badge access to 35th floor suite:
1. University of Chicago employees who are NITMB members will need to submit materials to be issued a Northwestern badge for access to the NITMB suite on the 35th floor of the John Hancock building. Submit via Smartsheet here. NITMB will notify you when your Wildcard is ready for pickup and where to pick up. Before 1/31/25 NITMB will program your badge, after 1/31/25 you will need to pick up your badge from the Wildcard office then send the photos to access@nitmb.org for the card to be programmed.
2. Northwestern employees who are NITMB members will need to submit a photo of the back and front of their wildcard to access@nitmb.org for access to the suite.
Eligibility for Badge Access to Elevator and Wildcard Badge to Suite
Badge access to NITMB space at 875 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611 is determined by your affiliation with NITMB. NITMB space access, both Wildcard and Hearn-Hancock badge, is granted to Northwestern University and The University of Chicago current NITMB faculty members, NITMB Fellows, NITMB Visiting Scholars, currently funded NITMB trainees, and NITMB staff.
Non-NITMB faculty members and staff, and trainees of non-NITMB members must consistently participate in NITMB activities and consistently utilize the space before they are eligible for badge access. All requests for access to an event or collaborative meeting must be submitted on as needed basis to access@nitmb.org . All non-NITMB members are welcome to apply to the Visiting Scholars program, selection and appointment allows for badge access to NITMB.
